Mother Antonia died on Oct. 17 in Tijuana, Mexico.

Message from our pastor, Fr. John

morning, I received the sad news of the death of Mother Antonia Brenner in Tijuana, Mexico. Mother Antonia was a member of our Eudist family and a great friend of the St. James-St. Leo community. Mother was 86 years old.

Although she had been in delicate health for many years, Mother continued to have an incredible amount of energy and passion for her ministry to the prisoners in the La Mesa Penitentiary in Tijuana.

Mother was born Mary Clarke, the second of three children of a wealthy Beverly Hills family. She was Irish to the core. Mary Clarke married twice, divorced twice and had seven children. When she was 55 years old, she sold her condo, gave her money to her family, put on a religious habit and moved into La Mesa, known as one of the worst jails in Mexico.
