Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

“FROM WORDS TO COMMITMENT” (François Thibodeau)

A fraternal gathering on every October 20th is a happy tradition which makes us remember the inspiration of our founder to celebrate on October 20th 1672 a feast in honor of the sacred heart of Jesus. The liturgy now invites us to celebrate the heart of Jesus, the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost, but it is great to share together the richness of this great gift of the celebration of the sacred heart, not only in June but in many other moments through the year.

So that we could together take advantage and celebrate this feast, on Tuesday October 20th 2015, in the house of Charlesbourg, we gathered close to 75 members of the Eudist family: incorporated, associates and friends. The celebration presided by Fr Ricardo Chinchilla, Provincial Superior, allowed us to deepen the roots of the first mass composed by Saint John Eudes. He guided us to be aware that true compassion is more than just feelings that upset our heart, we must commit ourselves to follow Jesus in the most deprived persons in our communities because “compassion without action” remains empty, it stays as nice emotions and good intentions with no real commitment.

But for us Christians, the deep emotion of compassion (in the style of Jesus) compels us to give concrete responses in our lives towards our neighbor, like the example given to us in the parable of the Good Samaritan who did not measure expenses in order to help his neighbor. With music composed by our confrere Renald Hebert, we sang the Ave Cor, our salutation par excellence to the heart of Jesus and Mary.

After sharing joy and life at dinner, there was a presentation of the pastoral project called “Corde Magno” of the North American Province in order to contribute to the formation of Christian leaders in different areas where the laity needs formation due to lack of priests.

Father Alain-David is the coordinator and Jean-Pierre-Deshaies is the volunteer in mobile application programming.

The confreres have already prepared talks on the subject of “Mercy” in order to be shared to communities in the dioceses of Baie-Comeau and Gatineau. With “great heart and generosity” is good to respond through new methods to this call of evangelic formation.
