Light and Hope for the Community of Juba in South Sudan

Thanks to solar panels donated by Green Utility, the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good
Shepherd in South Sudan will soon have the energy they need to power a new community residence for women and young girls.

The Sisters, located in the rural capital of Juba, need the solar energy to keep water, food and medical supplies refrigerated. They will also be able to power up computers and communicate more easily with the outside world. The Sisters currently use candles and walk miles to the city center to make a phone call or send a simple email. The forthcoming solar panels are a great blessing and gift for them.

After the long war in Sudan, the Sisters were forced out of their community in Kartoum in Sudan and had to relocate to Juba, the capital of this new fragile state that offers little to its people. They are trying to help the locals build a sense of community and a future.

Green Utility, based in Rome, has donated to a number of GSIF projects, including funding of a state-of-the-art water-waste management system and a bio-gas system for cooking at the Hekima Day Care Center in Kenya. We thank them for their generosity and continued support .
