MAUREEN McGOWAN Province Leader Province of New York-Toronto

Sister Maureen McGowan was elected the Province Leader of the Province of New York-Toronto on 28th April. Her mandate will begin on 1st July 2016. The Province Chapter was held in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA, from 27th April to 1st May 2016.

Maureen was born in New York City and entered the Congregation in Peekskill, New York, in 1965. She made her perpetual profession on 19th August 1973 in Huntington, NY. Maureen obtained a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and a Master’s degree in Social Work.

Maureen has a long history of program development and program leadership. She developed and led an alternative high school for at-risk youth, established the National Good Shepherd Volunteers, was
the Director of Handcrafting Justice for the past 15 years, and served as a Board member for several Good Shepherd sponsored ministries. She has also been committed to economic justice and social action programs and has recently worked with women released from prison.

Over the years, Maureen has also served in various congregational ministries, including vocation and formation director and province councilor.
