GSS participates in ECLAC conference, commits to developing new migrant protection project in Haiti

The Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd participated in the 13th Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean this week in Uruguay and announced their commitment to developing a new project in Haiti that will focus on migrant protection.

The conference, convened by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) to connect government representatives of the region, civil society and United Nations agencies, included the participation of our Sr. Marta Iris López, regional coordinator of Justice and Peace Office Latin America, and Heidy Hochstatter, the coordinator of the Mission Development Office Latin America.

Lopez and Hochstatter not only talked about the new project that will be developed with GSS Chile, but also worked in partnership with government representatives at the conference to ensure existing GSS programs that assist women and young girls continue to thrive and grow.

The conference is so important because it has helped shape the regional agenda on gender issues in an area of the world marked by economic, political, social and environmental uncertainties. It represents an opportunity to transform the region’s development path by eliminating inequalities and closing the gap between advances in legislation and women’s day-to-day realities.

Stay tuned for more details about our new project in Haiti.
